I really should be studying. But not now, not yet.

I read a rather interesting article in the forum section of today's Today newspaper. Seems the reader was wondering if the purpose of scholarships was being lost, if they were being taken up by the bright instead of the poor.

To my knowledge, the purpose of a scholarship is to provide financial support for students unable to pay for further education. I've always wondered if I thought wrong, because the contributor of the article does mention - and I do notice this - that they are being taken up for the prestige rather than the financial benefits.

As such, I've never really seen fit to aspire to such goals. Wouldn't want my studies to interfere with my education now, would we?

Indeed, as is the case for many things, spread yourself too thin and soon enough there will be nothing left at all.

A little more self indulgent than I would normally allow myself to be, but that's nighttime magic for you.

That sure was sombre, cat lovers might want to check out this Deviant. After all, every day is Caturday.

The crux of it, a student creates a program that scans the I.P addresses of people that edit entries on Wikipedia. Needless to say, hilarity ensues, with major entities such as the Vatican, and Microsoft pinpointed.

I do think this made my day.

Not for the first time, I woke in the middle of the night. All was quiet, save that which was standing beside my bed. In the darkness, it was, as far as I could tell, a person. More accurately, a person shaped hole in the darkness, pitch black, but for a crown of ivy.

"So it's time, then."

"That would appear to be the case."

"Are you going to kill me?"

"Probably, yes, I did promise," I said.

And indeed, I had. And in my dream I found a knife which I was sure I had not stashed among the covers, and I thrust out with it.

Of course, it wasn't that easy. Some things are harder to kill than others.

"There was a terrible ghastly silence.

There was a terrible ghastly noise.

There was a terrible ghastly silence."

-Somewhere in Galactic Sector ZZ9 Plural Z Alpha.

And that was how the world ended, among other things.

I send this note, not as a catch-me-if-you-can taunt, for we are gone, the estimable doctor and I, and you shall not find us, but to tell you that it was good to feel that, if only for a moment, I had a worthy adversary. Worthier by far than the inhuman creatures from beyond the Pit.

I will not sign myself ______, and until the hunt is done and the world restored, I beg you to think of me simply as

I met a cat on the way home, and it told me the most amazing things. The concrete of the car park, it intoned, was most acceptable for stretching out on. The breeze was refreshing, though the coming rain was a spot of bother.

And I agreed, that all was fine and well in the world.

It's not possible for me to lose, I'm the good guy, you see.

It's lonely at the top of the world. Just a sketch, done in 10 minutes. I think I'll leave it at that for now.

Monday double physics lessons are art lessons for me, as the state of my physics notes will reveal. For others, a nice nap works out fine, too.

Oh blasphemous fiend, the price you shall pay,

for choosing colour, in a world painted grey.

Seven years prison, for chromatic sedition.

For heresy, they say.

Will not be around till Sunday, chalets and stuff. In the meantime, some cool stuff from deviantART. Also, for the unfortunate or uninformed, the next expansion for World of Warcraft has been announced. Better not whiff my As so I can enjoy it.

If you have 5 minutes or so, do check this out. It's quite possibly the most amazing piece of animation I've ever seen, and I don't say such things often. It made me smile.

"In her dream, Hunter is in the undercity beneath Bangkok. It is partly a maze, and partly a forest, for the wilderness of Thailand has retreated deep beneath the ground, under the airport and the hotels and the streets. The world smells of spice and dried mango, and it also smells, not unpleasantly, of sex.

Upon her arrival, it comes through the underbrush, a fury of brown and of white, undulating gently, like a wet-furred snake. The creature is extinct in the world above. As it passes her, it freezes, and then it leaps at her, nothing but hate and sharp teeth.

She remembers, then, in her dream, that this had happened before, and that when it had happened, that time in the past, she had pushed the leather arm-shield into its mouth and crushed its skull with the leaden throwing stick taking care not to damage the pelt.

But now, in her dream, that is not happening, Instead, the weasel is reaching out a forepaw toward her, and she is dropping her throwing stick and taking its paw. And then and there, in the undercity beneath Bangkok, they are dancing together, in one intricate unending dance: tail and legs and arms and fingers and eyes and hair all tumbling and twisting powerfully and strangely into the underneath and out across forever."

It was a rather uneventful night, and I was about to turn out the lights and head to bed.

And then I heard it. A low, monotonous buzzing, followed by the sight of an indistinct black object circling the lights. Yes, another flying insect, you know how I hate 'em.

Conveniently, I had a piece of cardboard lying around, and using it as a giant fan, I put down some suppressing fire and cornered it behind my bookcase. From the looks of it, it was hiding innocuously behind a battered copy of "A Wrinkle in Time," by Madeleine L'Engle.

But not for long, I prodded the book off the shelf and it fled, losing me in the process. I was sure it was trying to sneak up behind me, so, as an added precaution, I turned on the ceiling fan to keep it grounded.

Soon enough, I found it skulking in a corner of my room under my easel, but not for long! Calling upon my last vestiges of sanity, I smote it mightily with "Economics Workbook 2A," followed by "General Paper Essay Writing" for good measure. Forces must have guided my hand, for it now lies crushed and eviscerated.

And so the epic duel ends, I shall worry about the mess tomorrow.

To think that this time next year, I'll be trudging around in the jungle, insects and all.

Hah! So help me gods.
